Why Organic Is Better — for Your Hair and the Environment

Are you concerned about what chemicals you use on your body? Do you worry about the effect your products can have on the environment? If your answer was yes to either of these questions, you may want to consider organic haircare products. Not only are they better for your scalp, but they’re better for the planet, too. We’re here to tell you why.

Your shampoo is intended to remove dirt and oil from your hair while your conditioner is meant to keep hair smooth and strong to survive being combed or brushed. Unfortunately, plenty of chemicals in standard haircare products go beyond these purposes. Some of these chemicals can damage your scalp, your hair, and the environment. You can avoid these negative effects by using men's organic shampoo and conditioner.

Healthy Hair

As men, we may not think much about the health of our hair. We may think about how it looks, and the inevitable thinning that will happen to most of us, but we don’t think about what we put into our hair to keep it healthy. As it turns out, hair health and looks are linked.

No Dangerous Chemicals

Most shampoos and conditioners contain harmful chemicals that, especially when used too often, can damage your hair and scalp. These chemicals can foam up and strip natural oils from your scalp. Without this moisture, the scalp can dry out and hair will become more susceptible to breakage. This can also contribute to early hair thinning and loss.

Because organic products are made from natural ingredients like plant extracts, vitamins, and essential oils, they have a more positive effect on your body. These natural ingredients work to promote a healthier scalp and stronger hair.

Hair gels and waxes can carry dangerous chemicals, too. Consider an organic hair pomade to support healthy hair all day long. Using organic ingredients can be the trick to keeping your hair healthy – even as you get older.

Safer for Skin

Your scalp isn’t the only part of your skin you should worry about. As you wash your hair, shampoo and conditioner drip down your head and onto the rest of your body. Your skin can absorb the chemicals, resulting in inflammation and irritation. Some people may even experience allergic reactions. Organic products won’t leave this effect because their gentle, natural ingredients are safe for all skin types. Think about what other products you use on your skin. Switching to organic beard oil is a great way to care for your facial hair and the skin underneath it.

Face skin can be sensitive; be careful what chemicals end up on it.

Better Results with More Time

The longer you use organic products, the greater the positive effect they will have on your skin and overall health. Even after just two or three uses, your hair will be thanking you for switching to organic products. As your hair adjusts to the natural ingredients, you will notice it looks and feels subtly healthier. (Remember that your skin will absorb the chemicals that pass across it, too.) With a switch to organic ingredients, your whole body will be happier and healthier. To be clear, organic products have all the same cleansing properties as regular products (but better). Although they are slightly more expensive, the health benefits are worth it.

Safe for the Environment

By switching to organic products, you are not only protecting your own hair but the environment, as well. Several ingredients of common products and the packaging they come in are responsible for environmental damage. So if you have control over the products you choose, why not choose organic, eco-friendly options?

Harmful Ingredients

Believe it or not, shampoo, conditioner, and body washes are made up of more than just soaps and bubbles. Common shampoos, for example, typically contain harmful ingredients like sodium laureth sulfate, parabens, phthalates, ammonium chloride, formaldehyde, and methylchloroisothiazolinone. These words are hard for us to pronounce and hard for Earth to cope with. Here’s how they spread havoc: sodium laureth sulfate and parabens are toxic to aquatic animals and coral, and phthalates released into the environment can be toxic to animals, causing infertility and other reproductive issues among mammals. Keep an eye out for all these ingredients when choosing your next shampoo.

Some products simply list “fragrance” as an ingredient. This is yet another red flag. Chemicals used to create fragrances in haircare products cast negative effects on the environment, too.

On the other hand, fragrances made from essential oils like lavender, tea tree, or eucalyptus are much safer choices.

Other natural and environmentally harmless ingredients include water, natural minerals, herbal extracts, coconut oil, and olive oil.

Perilous Packaging

Most hair care products are sold in plastic packaging. Very little of our plastic waste is properly recycled or incinerated, so it ends up in landfills or the ocean. According to a study by National Geographic, “A whopping 91% of plastic isn’t recycled.” Chlorinated plastic in landfills releases toxic chemicals into the surrounding soil and eventually groundwater. Not surprisingly, this can negatively impact the species that drink the water; this includes us. The manufacturers of organic hair products know how much you care about the environment, so they tend to package their products using recyclable materials.
